Albany is picturesquely situated on the Sugar River. This village of 1190 people is only 30 minutes from Madison and Janesville, and 2 hours from Milwaukee and Chicago.
The Sugar River Trail, part of Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail, passes through the village midway between Brodhead and Monticello, and 16 miles from the Swiss community of New Glarus. The trail provides a popular venue for biking, hiking, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing. Bicycle rentals are available locally.
The scenic Sugar River is a favorite location for fishing, canoeing, and tubing. Canoe and tube rentals are also available locally.
Other attractions in Green County include cheese factories and outlets, a micro-brewery, wineries, Amish and Swiss communities, and antique shops. A wide range of excellent restaurants offer a deliciously varied dining experience. Mt. Horeb, Cambridge, Mineral Point and Spring Green are all within easy driving distance. You never know when you'll encounter a cultural opportunity, such as the Monroe Arts Center, or unique craft store along the way!
